"The Adventure Begins Here!"
About us.
Troop 117 is chartered by St. Christopher's Church in Metairie, Louisiana. The troop has a history of over 50 years of service to Metairie and the surrounding communities. Dedicated to the belief that "Scouting is for all boys," the troop is open to boys, ages 10 1/2 to 18 from all schools, public, private and parochial. Being a family centered troop, parents are encouraged to take part in all troop activities. Many of the troop activities are planned with parents and extended families in mind.
Less than two percent of boys who join scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Troop 117 is proud to report that we have assisted seven boys, in the last three years, in reaching this goal. There are currently several other boys who are closing in on this great accomplishment.
"To help other people at all times" is part of the scout oath. Troop 117 assists other organizations in the St. Christopher family and participates in in many community service activities. Most recently, the troop has aided the Magnolia School, Second Harvesters Food Bank, the Jefferson SPCA, and have sent personal comfort items to our troops overseas.
Troop 117 is dedicated to having fun, learning new things, and opening an entire world of experiences for our boys. Along with weekend camp-outs, and summer and winter camps the troop participates in many outdoor activities such as canoeing, bicycling, and snorkeling.
